Computer building is really easy. I built my first one back in December with no problems.

And $500 is enough for a good system.

What would you be doing with it?

500$ is enough and building a computer is REALLY easy as long as you have some sort of logic and common sense LOL and eyes.

Also, Google and YouTube are your friends.

Now-a-days, there most likely is a guide or tutorial for everything computer related.

Idk. Pick out a case first of all and make sure it'll fit wherever you want to put it. THAT SHOULD ALWAYS BE YOUR FIRST MOVE, DON'T MAKE MY MISTAKE AND BUY A CASE LARGER THEN THE AREA FOR IT.

Honestly, just buy http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4689446&Sku=B69-1076 barebone and be happy. All YOU need to do is install a distro of Linux and then maybe eventually Windows. But you gotta remember that barebones are so cheap because they don't have an OS.
