honestly i'm surprised that with the huge success of apple's iphone/ipod touch devices we are stuck hoping that a group of kids creates the jailbreak. I mean come on, you would think some sort of company, or startup, would figure out a way to make some money off the jbreak and put it all together. If i had a nickel for everytime i heard someone say they would pay for a jailbreak.... And if you're thinking that a big company wouldn't want to draw the wrath of Apple, well they could keep it on the down low like the current teams. Now before anybody start nitpicking at the word 'kids', what i mean is: they keep a blog that is updated only occasionally when everyday, thousands of 2g owners are anxiously awaiting word, they use weird monikers, hell, has anyone ever seen them in person? Now don't get me wrong, my hat is off to these 'kids' for jailbreaking my iphone, i never said they don't have the skills, but with so much to gain, you would think this would be taken over by a more organized group. Perhaps it is money that would make the difference... Gameloft says they're producing a game, and they follow through. but i'm still hoping 'chronicDev' (<-- see what i mean?) or whoever it is, can release something eventually. I guess I'd just be a lot more optimistic if Gameloft announced they were working on it.
This is one of the most ridiculous posts I have read on this forum. I went through your post and numbered that which stood out to me. 1. Companies won't pay for a jailbreak due to legal ambiguities. They couldn't keep it on the down-low if it was being produced by a company, because everyone would know about it. Also, why would you want a company trying to do it? They would most likely charge money for it. This could easily be circumvented by just using the same process without their application, meaning that they had just wasted time and money developing something people won't pay for. That's not something companies do. 2. "a blog that is updated only occasionally when everyday, thousands of 2g owners are anxiously awaiting word" - This is absolutely ridiculous. Chronic Dev is a normal person who lives a normal life. Sorry if he doesn't dedicate his life to people who he doesn't know. Chronic also only posts when there is something to post about. Do you really expect him to post daily saying that there's still no exploit found? 3. Are you kidding? Gameloft just makes games. Gameloft probably doesn't know (nor care) about exploits or hacks or how to pass sigchecks or how to write or run unsigned code. Gameloft also makes money from the absence of a jailbreak - if there was a jailbreak for the 2G, less people would buy their games because they could just crack them. EDIT: Thinking more, and no offense, but you just seem like another ungrateful watcher. There is a ton of work involved in a jailbreak. It's not something with concrete progress, and it's not something that has a definite process. It's going to take awhile.
You missed my point, so I'll summarize. I don't think anyone would argue that we would rather have Gameloft working on a jailbreak, than a 'rag tag team of hax0rs'. And I know Gameloft makes games, it's just an example of a reputable company. Use your imagination.
Why would any reputable company waste time on a jailbreak when they can develop products that they can charge money for? There's no money in looking for a jailbreak. And it's not a 'rag tag team of hax0rs.' They're just guys who do this stuff for you in their spare time.
so you would rather have a reputable company who has no idea what they are doing in this field, than a team of people that know exactly what they are doing and instead of going to work 9-5 just to get paid, we do it because it is fun and sometimes all-nighters are pulled to get things done. above that, we do not even get paid for it. it is all done for fun, not for the money, which could sometimes make people slack off if they just want money and do not find it fun. ------------------double post merged------------------ nah, it wouldn't be illegal. ------------------double post merged------------------ pending because we think we may have found something very interesting, but to get any use out of it, if we can do anything useful at all, we need to do a bit of work. in fact, i am working on it right now, just taking a bit of a break to see what people are saying in this neck of the woods.
dont pay attention to the people like him, many of us are just happy that your trying, personally i have the utmost faith that you'll get it done, but if you dont then i still praise you for spending your time and effort trying
Ah man I wish I knew all these geeky stuff(no offense) Good luck to you and just pm me if you need beta testers or etc.
