How do you backup your iPod so you can restore after upgrading firmware?

    another question

If you back up your ipod then do it again a week later for whatever reason - is the old backup file overwritten or do they store separate back up files?

The reason why i ask is because it seems like whenever i sync my itouch it always does a backup first ...which is no problem but if they are storing multiple profiles I want to delete the oldest ones!

What file path in windows are the saved back up file(s) located?

I've heard of people also backing up the .ipa files for game applications by copying the original files located in windows file path itunes - mobile applications. By saving these in another folder would it be possible to 'backup' your application data in case itunes crashed and needed a reinstall or something? Or would you have to just re-download the files free of charge?

thanks in advance - hopefully i made my questions clear.
