The last time my ipod was backed up was on the 12th. I have tried to back it up since then, but it always takes hours and still never gets done. It never says its finished syncing because it automatically tries to back-up after the sync. Anyone have any ideas about what could be wrong? It has never taken this long.

    Any help is appreciated!

It takes about 10 minutes for mine to be backed.
How much stuff you got on your ipod anyway for it to take that long?

Is it backing up videos too? My wife has about 12 movies on her ipod that are already on her computer, so backing those up would be redundant.

Yet she can let her backup run for 30 minutes and it won't finish.

    It's an iPod Touch 16gb 2G.

I have a ipod toouch 2g 16GB with about 4GB of space left and it only takes about 3 or 4 minutes to back mine up. Maybe you are using usb 1.0 instead of usb 2.0? That's the only thing I can think of.

    I had this dilemma too.

Just waste some time until it's done.
My iPod Touch 3g 64gb takes usually a half hour to sync/backup.
I just play some video games, namely Painkiller, to kill some time.
Sometimes my iPod will surprise me and finish in 5 minutes.
Before it took me about 3-6 hours to backup for the first 2 times I synced and backed up my iPod.
    Now it takes 5-30 minutes.

I am updating to os 4

I am updating to os4 and i never back up before, I would always hit the X button but at the speed it is going now it will take 12-24 hours. Is this normal? After 6 months of use, with 200 pics, and 7 pages of apps which take a lot of data for each app because of virtual town stuff

Mine looks like it will never back up and install the new OS! On my first attempt, the upgrade downloaded until there was a second left, but then when it went to back up, it froze. I terminated the process, took off many of my videos, in case there was not enough space and tried again. This time is worse! It just gets stuck on backup! Even though there is so little to back up. When I do a normal sync, the back up does not take long at all, so I cannot understand why this is happening. Maybe the upgrade is not meant to be for me!
