I want to ensure that my contacts and the phone numbers for those contacts are not deleted when I jail break my phone.

To do this, all I have to do is go into itunes, select the info tab, then under contacts check "sync contacts with Outlook", select "all contacts", and then hit sync at the bottom, correct?

Once I jailbreak the phone, all the contacts will still be there, or do I need to go back into itunes and re-sync the phone?

You don't even need to do that. Your contacts are stored in the backup file in iTunes.

Open Itunes>right click your iPod>create backup. And it should be done.

Or if you let your iPhone sync regularly, the backup will be included in that. It would be smart to make sure you have a fresh one though.

Good to know. Is there a way to view the contacts that are backed up on the PC? As in a file that can be opened microsoft notebook and veiwed in .txt form?

Um... I think the only way to do that would be to back them up with Outlook like you originally said. Maybe you can open the backup file to read it but I don't know if it would be worth the trouble.

Ok, I jailbroke the phone and installed

Mobile Terminal (to change the password)
    Mobile Substrate
    OpenSSH
    VoIPover3G

Turned the phone off and on and now I have no 3g network.

    What gives?

    Ok,
I connected to my wifi, installed 3G unrestrictor, uninstalled VoIPover3G, and now my 3G is back up.

Make sure hidden files & folders is shown in folder options on your PC then navigate to my computer/iPhone/iTunes _control/contact here you will find a bunch of folders, the contact is in them but labeled so only iTunes knows what they are. Copy the folders to your desktop and import them with iTunes , you can then see what they are and you will then be able to put them on a different I device if you want
