Thanks buddy...I'm hearing impaired and have done several self impressions so it is a given for me but for the general public I tend to agree that a specialist should do the service. The risk lies in damaging the eardrums prior to the mold injections. Next is the 'fullness' of the impressions. Anyone who is a rebel and wants to do this....keep in mind : cotton swab not too deep b4 injections and open jaws while impressions sets. Again....best to have it done professionally.

The Aurisonics AS-1 Custom series has been released. They feature all of the excellent qualities of the ASG-1 series headphones, with a custom molded body (kit included) and offer options like Tunable Ambient (house sound) port & Tunable Bass porting.
I got mine from Custom-ears.com . If you already have the ASG-1 headphones, they also make custom molded earpieces - free kit included. FYI, Even though they give y0u a free kit, I would agree with Danka 58 & recommend having an audiologist make your impressions. They'll do a better job for about $25 and you don't risk injuring your ear by stuffing the material too deeply into your ear canal.

Actually, the AS-1 were released before the ASG-1. Essentially, the ASG-1 was made as a demo product for musicians to be able to listen to the IEMs signature before they purchased the AS-1s (it's always good to get an idea of what something sounds like before hand). Many musicians asked Aurisonics why they didn't sell the ASG-1 and they went out and sold it publically :) I do also want to point out that Aurisonics makes custom earpieces for the ASG-1s as well.

So everything you did say is correct, the AS-1 is out (and has been out).

Yeah, I got the timing part, thanks for the clarification. The guys @ custom-ears.com don't include the ASG-1 by model number in their description of the generic monitors. I have a set of the generics and a custom AS-1 set. Both are worthy of mention, and certainly worth the money... Speaking of which, if you want a pair of ASG-1 monitors, check their prices, too.

I would also like to add that at this time, Custerm-ears.com is not an official retailer for Aurisonics. I'll update when they are. Since they aren't an official retailer, you may not get the 100% support you need from the manufacturer.

    EDIT:

It turns out that although they aren't an authorized retailer, they get their stock form one, so they are allowed to sell Aurisonics IEMs.

Honorable move, tinyman... Bottom line in all of this, Aurisonics is a great product and that's really the point that should not be lost in any of the discussions. ASG or the AS-1 series, all excellent products, no matter where you get them.

The Aurisonics plug has a metal collar, not the plastic. It doesn't stick out as far as the pic you have above, but it's definitely there.

Be sure to check in with Dale & the folks @ Aurisonics. There is a new filter now for the ASG-1 that they say will attenuate the mids a little. I haven't heard them yet, but I am anxious to hear the difference. It should tame the 'shouty' feeling that some are reporting. It costs $20 for the upgrade. You have to send them in, but they will make a fast turn for you & even pay shipping back to you.

I can't even hear the difference between a Monster turbine and a stock Apple earphone. Audiophiles have sensitive ears don't they?

I hope you are exaggerating. Most consumers will indeed notice a difference between headphones that are crap and ones that are great. Same thing goes for minor things like this. You might not be able to pinpoint what quite sounds better or worse, but the difference is noticeable in quality.
