Apple is near the bottom of the barrel when it comes to audio quality. Have there been an improvement on music playback?

I am talking about what you hear out of your headphones. If you listen to a cowon, zune, or a samsung the audio quality is so much better.

i dont think apple are the best but i wouldn't say that their audio quality is bad.unless you are using a bad pair of headphones or a really low bit-rate song but if everything is good then it should sound nice!

I got to listen to music on my G4 all weekend long with a good set of Sony ear buds, and I had no problem with how my music sounded. I even danced on the beach to a couple of live Grateful Dead tunes. Sounded just like I was at a Dead concert back in my old hippie days.

It really does have crappy sound quality. I mean, when I listen to music on my sh*tty laptop it comes out better than on my iPod. That just sounds ridiculous to me seeing as my laptop isn't built for music playback but my iPod is meant to be an mp3. I wish Apple would improve on that. =(

(I don't have a 4g yet, I'm just basing my opinion off my old 3g.) I hope someone comes along and answers this question though. I really hope someone finds that the 4g has improved in sound quality.

Please invest in a better pair of headphones and consider laptops and computers naturally have the ability to output things at higher volumes. iDevices aren't near perfect in sound quality and if you really want bottom of the barrel look to the 1st gen nano..... A pair of good headphones may surprise you though and don't bother talking to me if you mention anything under $100 or the word skullcandy.
