Is there any sort of way to have an iphone with at&t without them being able to detect it? There should be some way to trick at&t into thinking you're using a different phone? Or am I wrong.

There is no way to trick AT&T because they can check the IMEI of your phone. But I do think you can put an AT&T gophone or prepaid phone sim in your phone as long as both of them are activated and it will work.

I've heard of some people getting away with it, but I've also heard of more people getting a notice from AT&T stating that it is mandatory to do have a data plan and is going to be charged for it.

Think theres a tweak for this, and also think you can get away by simply turning the 3G off, and not even going into any internet apps of any sort unless you have wifi.

yea i dont think that they can catch you if you turn off 3G unless they are looking for people and scan the numbers.
