okay so i got an iphone 3g a few weeks ago and jailbroke it then used sbsettings to turn off edge & 3g then put my simcard in and have been using it. then at&t left me 4 voicemails telling me to call them...
im assuming they want me to pay 25$ for the data plan.
we have internet blocked on all of our cell phones in our plan because its a rip off for the amount of data you get.

and i want to know how is at&t monitoring my iphone 3g and how do they know i am using one?

also is there a way i can keep using my iphone without having to pay for a data plan?

I dont remember the exact terminology but my BF works for AT&T and he said that basically the towers keeps track of what kinds of phones are tied to what numbers through all incoming and outgoing texts and phone calls.

Ex: He as an employee for AT&T isnt supposed to use his iPhone for his company phone, and he did a couple times to help keep us from getting lost, and a couple days later he got an email reminding him of company rules.

AT&T has the ability to see what kind of phone you're using.
You can be using data or have it blocked - they can still look it up.

To be able to use an iPhone (with AT&T), you must pay for some type of data plan.
If you don't, AT&T has the right to tack on the $15 or $25 fee per month.

Not paying the bills is just going to get you into more trouble.

Bubalooshi, you're mostly right..I'm on AT&T pay as you go and they cannot tack the fee on mine, mainly because I do not have $15+ balance.
