AT&T jacks Early Termination Fee for would-be defectors

    If At&t really pulls this out, is gonna suck for all iphone users who just want to buy the iphone and then cancel the contract. A contract free iphone (sort pf speak) would cost almost as much as those factory unlocked ones

    So this won't apply to current customers? I skimmed through it on Tech Crunch and didn't notice it saying that.

    It doesn't apply to the old contracts.

    Still it would be crazy if at&t dares to pull this crap out, i think it is time for the government to regulate those mobile phone companies just like they do in Europe and Australia

    They're trying, the FCC is really thinking about it, at least now they have to publicly announce everything, before last year no one even knew how much the termination fees were without a lot of research.

    But yes, they need to be regulated a lot.
