I know you know at home activation is back, so don't post about the other threads that say its back.
skip to the bottom to get to the point.

Now, after doing a bit of research, i found they also charge a new-line activation fee

    (nothing much)

i was like alright, doesnt matter, ill buy it, pay the first month's bill and cancel it.... then i read some more

    these following fees also apply....

the contract termination fee is $175 (OMFGZ!!!)

we already know that if you cancel your contract before 30 days, you have to return the device (old news)

    the total activation/termination is

    175+$36=$211
    added on to the price
(i added the 36 because they only waive the fee if you cancel within 3 days, and in that case, you have to return the device.)

add that on to the initial price... its basically getting a (maybe) cheaper PAYG early.

So $510 total. Thats what you would have payed for the original iphone, contract or no contract.

You are forgetting the prorate charge they sneak in there. as well as the first months bill. I dont know for sure if this is void if you just order the unit and not activate it.

So the math would be more along the lines of:
    Phone + Activation + 1st Month + Prorated air time + ETF

So having the most basic plan as i do it would be about:

    Phone + $150(Activation + first month + prorate) + 175

So about $615 give or take.(for 16 gig)

Trust me on that. My friends and i have done this calculation several times for several different reasons. And from what we have heard, if and when they make a contract free 3G this amount is about the same as what we have heard it will cost. The only hope this in home activation may give is a way to avoid the airtime fees.
