I have a 2g jailbroke itouch using os 4. Iptbackup doesn't work although all the compatibility lists it as working on 4. When I try to open it it trys to open for a flash and then closes. Any ideas?

AptBackup has always been weird for me. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I would try PkgBackup next time you need to backup.

I would use RockYourPhone to automatically create a backup whenever you run the app. If does the same thing as Cydia, but runs about 20 times better than Cydia, is more organized, and looks nicer! Oh and it's free!

Yes, I would also advise you to use PKGBackup as well because it works very well and is the safest. Whenever you back up using it, it creates a contact in your Mobile Contacts app that serves as a log. The crucial step is to use iTunes or something to back up your contacts. If you don't have the contact backed up, then the app is pretty much useless because it doesn't have the log to see what it needs to back up or restore.

How do you get it? I thought it was a competitor to Cydia?

What? PKGBackup? It is a package that you can download in Cydia. But I think that it is a paid app, but it's worth it. I don't remember exactly, but I think that it's only 99 cents.
