I installed APT 0.7 HTTPS Methods in Cydia but I still have no apt-get in console. I am also looking for gcc and gdb but don't see them in Cydia, is there another source I need to add to get these packages?

I think you also need the other APT packages.

when I do a search that and aptbackup are all that show up. That's why I asked if I needed other sources or something.

Try typing in apt again. It pulls up a ton more than just aptbackuo for me.

what sources do you have installed?

this is what I have when I search for apt:
    APT 0.7 HTTPS Method
    AptBackup
    APTCAL

    thats it.

    edit:
Oh when I installed I initially selected GUI only, someone said this is prob the problem how I I change the cydia type to 'hacker' instead of 'gui only'? I tried reinstalling cydia to no avail.
