I saw this advertised in a catalogue for $35 (in Australia) and i was wondering if these were compatible with the 2G touch. If so can i use it with apps like Shazam and iTalk Recorder?

I never noticed that those work with the 2nd Gen iPod touch, thank you. Maybe someone can tell if they work with the first Gen? 2.2 supposedly allows microphones through the audio line in.

I have not yet heard about the quality of the microphone.
I guess that the best quality you will get from an external "home made" microphone:

    Picture 1. - Functional test
Note that none of the tree wires to the headphones are connected to the shield cable

Picture 2. - Two microphones and a connection box
The microphone in the background gives a clean and natural sound reproduction, while the one in the foreground (black crime tube) performs very well - considering the low price. The later is very small.

I think I will stick to my microphones.
