This is a discussion thread for the "Apple TV Cost $64 to Make" story posted on the front page.
See they arent so greedy
Wait so how much does an iPad cost to make
IM sorry , but they have to be cheaper than $64 to make, think about it, if Apple sells them to Best Buy and other retailers, they probably sell them for $79 to them. Not only that, the cost of hardware, labor, marketing, SHIPPING from China would make NO PROFIT.
it probably cost $30 to make the hardware, and $64 total after all costs.
What surprises me the most is that Apple isn't actually making much profit by selling them at $99, specially taking into account other costs such as advertisement, development etc. So they most likely will make the big bucks with rentals and software
Well, the breakdown is right there if you want to see for yourself. Remember, Sony lost money on each PS3 sold for years, so a small profit margin isn't exactly unheard of. Though, $64 in parts sounds about right to me.
Kerr, the iPad cost $260 to make. [Source]
Exactly my thoughts. They aren't aiming to make money from the hardware, but rather from what you purchase after having the hardware bought! Please Register or Log in to view images

That sounds like the apple I know
so you are saying you think $64 PLus Marketing, Software Design costs, Shipping from china, is right? they might be at a cost of $75 after all that is factored in.
then imagine if they sell to retailers like target and best buy, they would sell them at a discount for them to make a profit...$85-$90...Apple would make $10 for these sales to Best Buy.
I guess if you think about it, it isnt that bad, but i really believe they get them made for much cheaper, it is JUST A HUNK of PLastic. a Nice hunk i must say
It has 2 GB of SDRAM?!?
