So we've already seen Apple's press release that unlocking apps might void warranties or even brick devices.

And we know Apple is selling iPod games via iTMS.

And we see all the black space on the iPod touch home screen.

Why wouldn't Apple start selling real apps via iTMS?

If you can download Tetris, you can just as easily drop $5 on Mail.app or Maps.app.

My question is: Why wouldn't Apple be planning to do this?

They have partnered with Nintendo and the games will be out soon. My guess is
    mid-october.

I really hope the jailbreak thing happens soon, then we can get all the programs we want. Yes, true, this is very risky. But if Apple decides to sell applications on the iTunes Music Store then they would most likely only sell applications they make. (IE mail.app notes.app, etc.) Which are good programs but having the flexibility of putting those applications and other third party programs/games on is very tempting.

Actually, I was thinking the same thing myself a few nights ago and meant to post it here.

I don't know if it's a good thing or not. If its cheap (no more than $3) for an app and you have it, well, forever (and can use gift cards for it), im game.

Honestly, I too would pay for the apps. The black space not being used up is a waste and a little annoying. I'd pay for mail, notes, but weather.... if they threw it in free sure! Hell, even a dictionary would be neat to have too for class or what ever. I mean, it's got a calculator .. why not a dictionary?
