With the iPhone 4 having bad signals because of the firmware I was thinking, what if Apple made the firmware bad on purpose to give an excuse to release another firmware update? They might have thought that the jailbreakers would have used their exploit already and then Apple would patch it and release the new 4.01?

That is almost crazy enough to make sense. I'd say that is very possible.

I actually had a theory along these lines before. Something in the back of my head, that, or I saw something like this before, because I just had a bit of a deja-vu moment.

I don't find 4.0 bad at all. Though I'm still on the GM. Is the final version worse than that?

No, the iPhone 4 reception issues are based on the firmware, thats what Apple said, 4.01 would fix it.

No.that would be idiotic given that the majority of people don't jailbreak

3.0 was also buggy as hell, wasn't it?! Apple would release firmware updates to patch jailbreaks anyway, they don't need an excuse.

Know why? 'cause it's f***ing retarded, that's why.

I've never heard of anything as stupid as this. The majority of iPhone users don't jailbreak, and why would Apple intentionally nerf their own firmware? And every piece of hardware isn't software exploited, it's holes and patches in the bootrom that isn't patch-able, so to speak, with a firmware upgrade.
