Don't you have Pay-as-you-go phones in America?

Its the easy way to buy an iPhone here in the UK (sim locked to a given network) but still no network contracts to be signed, and save £200 when compared to buying an iPhone that's Factory unlocked.

More interestingly does it look to everyone else like Apple are trying to shift iPhones ready for the anticipated May/June release of the next gen iPhone?

I'm not to up on the way Apple US opperates, but you don't open up the market on one of your biggest selling products, unless you're trying to empty the warehouse to make a bit of space on the shelves, do ya?

I have a feeling those prices will be slashed as we head into June as dealers dump their 3GS stock ahead of the 4G announcement.

It's good for those people who have a lot of money, switch carriers often or don't want to be tied into a lengthy contract. It also gives them the freedom to go ahead and purchase a new phone when it comes out, without HAVING to pay it out full price, because they could sign a new contract for the new one.

Now that Apple's done this, they should be offering it unlocked.
