This is a discussion thread for the "Apple Has Become the Focus of Developers Over the Past Decade" story posted on the front page.
Once again a very purposefully pro-Apple blog post. Sure, iOS has helped Apple get a lot more developers interested in developing for that platform and maybe also by extention for OS X. I do not however think it's fair to say that it means that they all stopped developing for other platforms which it kind of sounds like you are implying. That sounds more like wishful thinking to me.
This is starting to die. Apple is treating individual developers like crap. They have broken the search results and done a lot of changes recently which is making developers go away iOS, to Android.
Sure. Millions of people with iPods=millions in the developer's pockets. When the iPod and App Store were introduced, it changed the whole way we interacted with others. iPods/Apple has changed our culture and cultures all around the world. It's fairly obvious. Microsoft is a great company, but they haven't really instilled any kind of...uniqueness to what they do or what they have. Is the Surface unique? Yes, but Apple got on the trail years ago. Apple is popular. Android is great, but back then it lacked...a lot of things. Now things are changing. Other companies are realizing they should have taken Apple's route three or even five years ago. Competition in the coming years is going to be brutal. You put an iPod Touch in someone's hand and you put a Windows Phone in their hand. Which one would they take? Fairly obvious...the iPod. Why? Because their friends play Angry Birds on iPods. Their friends take pictures with their iPod. Their friends own iPods. Everyone owns iPods and you don't. That's basically why I bought my first iPod.
I remember when they were counting down for the billionth app... I even remember the app! It was: Bump
