just to let you all know, i emailed itunes support to complain about having to pay for the new apps and asked for an explanation.

They have told me that as "a one time exception" if i purchase the jan software update on itunes and let them know the details they will give me a refund.

For anyone who wants the official apps for free it may be worth going down this route.

    Refund or Credit?

Did they offer you a refund or a store credit?

If they give a refund, I will go for it. If store credit, forget it.
