Some people dont see the difference between Apple keeping these logs of your location and At&t tracking you for a signal. At&t does not (as far as we know) keep a log of your location. Your phone (at least on older cell phones a year or two ago) sends out a signal every 15min in order to find the closest towers (3 for triangulation) (to provide for a strong signal). Apple on the other hand is keeping a log of your location and at what time you were there. What is the point of this record? What use does it serve us? What use does it sever apple? Some say it may be a "feature" in the future, which may be the case. But why has the "feature" not come out yet? Some phones have been storing data for over a year now. Still no "feature" I would have expected Apple to do this. This is more of a google move (but ironically google doesn't do this...not yet anyway) EDIT: This makes it a bit less creepy.... http://www.cultofmac.com/iphone-tracking-is-all-a-big-mistake-says-researcher/91387
You might want to reread that first line I quoted above, I think you might have left out a "n't".... As to Apple's spin, why would a phone not even signed up to MobileMe be recording this? Why when one runs Untrackerd would their phone still work for MobileMe? Clearly the point of MobileMe is NOT showing where you've been, but rather where your device is.... as far as I know the MobileMe interface does not permit one to go back in to the pass hour, let alone day, or week.... It is not design to snoop and let one know where you've been.
If anyone wants to track you, they will find a way. But who is so curious about where you did go? Your enemy? wife? girlfriend?
