Find a guide that only Flashes the NOR and not the entire firmware. This will preserve everything. I know it works because thats how I upgraded mine to untethered.

Can I just make a backup then jailbreak and sync my stuff back on? how would I do this?I was gonna try to do the "Restore from Backup" but I didn't know if that restored the FW... Clearification in this would be awesome: does restore from backup "rewrite" EVERYTHING in the iPod?

NOR-only restore. Use these patches in PwnageTool (replace both of the .dmg patches-- normal, and nowrite [rename it though] in the FirmwareBundle for your iPod's firmware).

    http://iphwn.org/noronly.zip

Makes a 300MB ipsw but skips fs flash. Works like a charm

if ur on run rs mode look at my guide in my signiture...if not just run the redsn0w exploit then fake restore with apple 2.2.1 firmware, do this by firce quitting itunes when ur ipod boots off during the restore process, then try to boot and u will get recovery screen, from there shift restore 2 a NOR only ipsw, pm me for it
