I'm literally about to invoke my Apple Care warranty and send my iPod back for repairs. My Home Button is generally not working, it only works when I press it repeatedly. Does anyone know for sure if this is a jailbreaking side effect or a hardware issue that happens due to repeated use? Perhaps I can send them this one back and get a 2g in return? That would be cool

    Just wondering.

my sleep/wake button is dead. it started to fail like 2 onths ago, and deteriated since. i think it's hardware failure, due to the fact that we are first generation-ers.

No, there have been way too many people that have had bad results with it. What else?

I just retored to a non-jailbroken state. Problem is still there :/

Was it a nice clean refurb or a scratched up one? I think I'm going to call them and try doing a trade in kinda deal. Like give them $50.00 and get the new iPod. It has a speaker ya know

I was pretty sure it was too. How have your experiences with the repair program been? Those of you who have been there.

Sounds like a hardware failure, yes. Call up Apple and get them to get you another one. And don't try to get a 2g, it won't happen.

And to everyone else who has this idea, Apple won't do it. They would be losing money by giving you a 2g because they are no longer making 1g's. Basically you give them a 1g iPod, they give you a refurb, and they then fix the one they gave you to sell it back for refurb. Now that they aren't selling the 1g's anymore, they wont do it. I'm not sure you can buy a refurb 1g, but odds of Apple giving you a brand new product for an older version, is slim to nil.

I had this problem a while back.
So I know EXACTLY what your feeling.
I would HIGHLY recommend to drive to the nearest Apple store and have them give you a refurb.
I sent mine to the Apple store which took eight days from when it was picked up and returned.
After I got the iPod Touch back it still had the same problem!
I called them and asked why it still didnt work, they said they fixed it and it should work.
So I ended up driveing one hour to my Apple store and got a new one.
