I am using Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx, and my Windows dual boot installation is present, but Windows is just too slow. Any way I could do the upgrade using Ubuntu? And my iPod Touch is a 2nd gen.

If you can get idevicerestore compiled you can use that.

Thanks. I'll look into it. I think I'd seen someone ask for it and have someone upload the compiled version. I'll post that link here, for anyone else who may want it too.

Had a similar question and found a solution to our problem.

    Try following this guide:

First we have to install libimobiledevice

    sudo apt-get install git-core python-all-dev libplist++-dev libzip1 libzip-dev libreadline6-dev build-essential automake autoconf libtool libusb-dev libusb-1.0-0-dev libcurl4-gnutls-dev

    git clone http://github.com/posixninja/libimobiledevice.git
    cd libimobiledevice

    ./autogen.sh

    make

    sudo make install
    ______________

Then install iReovery/libirecovery (need a libirecovery header file to compile ideviceresore)

    git clone http://github.com/chronicdev/libirecovery.git

    cd libirecovery

    make linux

    sudo make linux install
    ______________________

    Then finally compile idevicerestore

    git clone http://github.com/posixninja/idevicerestore.git

    cd idevicerestore

    ./autogen.sh

    ./configure

    make

    sudo make install

    ____________________________

The compiled idevicerestore should be in idevicerestore/src/

Hope this helps. If not, post your errors and i will see if i can help you.
