Like is there any decoder or codes around for it? When will we get to that point where MP4 is not the only mobile format anymore v_v. I really hate having to convert all my movies for soooo long just to watch them in this sub par format which i think actually removes some quality.

    Thanks in advance.

    Or

When will h.264 MP4 be the main universal format? I mean really. Its a really great format. Great quality, small size, able to have many other features such as soft subtitles, multiple audio tracks that you can switch from/around.

As to your main question, if you Jailbreak, you can use VLC4iPhone that can play most formats that aren't MP4.

To my knowledge, I think its still going, last update was for 2.1 I think? I mean, of COURSE it'd be slow since its decoding a format that is not native to the device. But I've heard that it does alright.

Though another thing, you may still have to turn down the resolution to fit the device's resolution. Which may require converting anyway.
