    Hello,

Lately I have been leaving my iPoT 1G alone but i feel like modding it for some reason...So my question is, are there any cool mods that i could do to it that won't screw it up? If it helps its on 3.1.2 and can you please supply instructions on how to do the mod.... Right now all i have on my list are verbose mode ( i know it doesnt work for 3.1.2) and alpha passcode ( i dont have the instructions to do it but if you can supply them please do)...Thanks in advance.

You could use virtual memory to make your ipod faster but, it'll hurt the drive in the long run.

you could only overclock on 1.1.x

Nobody knows how badly it'll hurt the drive yet

It uses a swap file as virtual ram

The iPod touch has two types of memory:
    Flash and RAM

Flash stores all your songs and applications (8+ GB), and the RAM is memory for the OS and games/applications etc. Usually about a hundred or so megabytes. RAM is important because that's where the iPod does all its calculations, same as on a computer.

RAM can be read/written to virtually unlimited times, which is good because the iPod is always reading and writing to it, for basic operation. You can increase the speed of the iPod by giving it more RAM, but the only way to do this is to use the flash drive as virtual RAM.

While you get more RAM, and you'll notice a speed increase, the iPod is now often reading and writing to the flash drive, and this is bad because flash memory has a limited number of write times. Every time data is written to the drive, its life decreases slightly. Using it as virtual memory guarantees that your drive will die sooner, just no-one knows how much sooner.
