The Open Handset Alliance, a group of more than 30 technology and mobile companies, is developing Android: the first complete, open, and free mobile platform.

So what does this mean for the iPhone/iPod touch? Well nothing right now. But it could one day replace the OS that is currently running on your ipod/iphone. Why would I want Android on my ipod? Well for starters we are very limited when it comes to how we use are devices. You can only use iTunes to transfer music. There is no access to the device other than itunes. Everything we do to the device is governed by apples rules. You can always jailbreak your device to gain access to those options. But then apple always comes along with an update and we all know far to well the headaches that come along with that. wouldn't it be nice to have something just as nice to look at and just as feature packed as apples OS. But without the governing of apple.

This is were Android would benefit us all . You could choose not to use itunes. How you want it to look how you want it to act. Things like customize and somerboard and all your favorite apps could be written for it and installed with no one trying to stop you. The options would be limitless. No more worrying about how the next update is going to affect you. The best part is its open. So while it may not look like much now if and when it makes its way to the iphone it will be so much more then what we have now. All the things we love about are iphone/ipod are build into android. Support for touch screen, exeliromitor ext.

How is this coming to the iphone? Well weather they know it or not iphone Linux, android and the iphone-dev team are working together to make it happen. The iphone Linux team is currently working on getting Linux up and running on the iPhone. making the drivers all the dirty work http://www.iphonelinux.org/index.php/Main_Page . While android which has all the features needed for the iphone and is based on a Linux kernel is set to release by the end of this year. http://code.google.com/android/ and the iphone dev team has already released an application that in theory would eventually give us the ability to install any OS.

Its only a matter of time before it all comes together. If your still not sure what android is google.

Tes I know your just itching to find flaws in this so Flame on!

I think Android on the iPhone or iPod Touch would be great, cept Apple would never allow it, they just won't.

Also, it would take a LOT of time to port it over to the iPod Touch / iPhone since not all mobile devices are equal and the same.

Android is built to be a cross platform OS. Built to run on all kinds of different mobile devices. I don't think it will take that long to get it up and running. As for apple they don't condone a lot of thing that are done with there products but that has never stopped anything from being done.

A TRUELY Cross Platform OS would on the Internet because it has no limitations.

As for Android, you have to take in account the Processor's Architecture, the GPU, if it's a Phone or not, etc.

Android is coming one way or another to the iphone. Weather it be the hacking community or some over seas tech company its coming. If apple likes it or not. If not then something far better is on its way and the iPhone will be obsolete in no time. Heres an interesting read.

I love my iPhone Unlocked and jailbroken. If I couldn't do those two things I would have never got one. What's an iPod touch without a jailbreak? Just a over priced mp3 player with a web browser. Thats it. But every update its the same thing find an unlock find a jailbreak find whole in apples FW. If android gets running on the iPod/iPhone there will be no more need to jailbreak no more looking for an unlock.

Yea you won't get the appstore apps. But you will get so much more. It basicly has almost the same UI as the iPhone but its OPEN. You can do what ever you want to it. Change it however you like. 1000000000000 times better then any recent or upcoming FW from apple.

Watch the youtube videos of it in action then tell me what's the better OS. Look at the iPhone out of the box. No jailbreak. Then look at android.

    Heres some good ones.
