I think it's good idea to make new topic about :> since ppl ask what is android i said again:

Its OS (more like distribution of linux for mobile) made by Google based on Linux, since we got working Linux kernel already on iPhone porting Android should be piece of cake since it's open source.

As you may not know, but theres Android emulator, similar to iPhone simulator

you can see how android looks like and work.

    Download Android SDK:

    http://code.google.com/intl/pl/android/download.html

And theres will be emulator.exe in tools dir :>it have working android with default stuff (without few apps like IM, Calendar and specially market place)

Theres few interesting stuff like virtual SD Card (needed for saving/downloading files), Screen size settings, basic GSM communication simulator (sending SMS and Calls to emulator), you find all info about it in this documentation:

    http://code.google.com/intl/pl/android/reference/emulator.html

If you want to try with coding something, download Eclipse IDE and do what is in this doc:

    http://code.google.com/intl/pl/android/intro/installing.html

    Enjoy!

Thanks, Shadowriver. I think I'm going to play around with this since I haven't had a chance to play with anyone's G1 phone.

EDIT: Oh i just notice what you mean XD you need to run nit with screen size mot on landscape mode, emulator can't turn device dynamically, you need to start it with specific position (Portrait or Landscape).

Ok maybe I didn't explain myself.

I have the G1 it has the Android OS.

Am I able to hack it like the iPod? meaning can I add 3rd party apps and make my own Settings and have different Icons? Maybe even a video wallpaper?

    that's what I meant.

Well you don't need to hack anything to get 3rd party apps, you don't them in market place ("3rd party apps" means app not made by system creator), and they don't have much limitation as iPhone apps, they can do what ever they want (just they can't modify system files

    )

You want custom themes huh? I think they might show up in future Android versions, since Android is open lot of phone producers will want to have own personal look of there phone ;] I think it's only matter of time... things are way different then iPhone in this matter.
