    I don't see the point of Amazon releasing anything other than a regular Kindle E-Reader.

    Okay... the iPad is all about the iOS ecosystem; iBooks, iTunes, the App Store.
    The iPad is really just a limited-function tablet. The Fire is not a limited-function tablet; it's a crazy awesome eReader with all the bells and whistles and then some.
    They're different things, I'm not sure why the article turned into an iPad vs. Fire soliloquy.

    I agree with the title of the article. I can't think of any reason why someone would purposefully limit themselves to just the Amazon app store (one that has become known for being unfriendly for developers) and at most a half-decent UI when just buying any other good Android phone would give you the same store but also much much more. It makes sense for the Kindle Fire but not for a phone.
