Does anyone know WHY Amazon.com charges so much more for the iPad than Apple does?

I bought my iPod Touch from them. Not only was it cheaper, but I also didn't have to pay sales tax.

I was hoping for a similar deal for an iPad.

Here's the prices I found. All WiFi only

    Memory...Apple........Amazon.com...Difference
    16gb.....499.00.......599.99.......100.99
    32gb.....599.00.......704.99.......105.99
    64gb.....699.00.......789.99........90.99

    3G
    Memory...Apple........Amazon.com...Difference
    64gb.....829.00.......969.50.......140.50

Amazon doesn't sell the 3G version with 16gb or 32gb.

This is totally CRAZY! Does anyone have a clue as to what's going on here? Why would anyone want to buy an iPad from Amazon.com?
