So I'm going to jailbreak a friend's phone once I figure out to do this. Her power button doesn't work at all. And I used DFU mode and iReb to do it's thing to allow me to restore to the custom firmware. I never really tried to do it without iReb. But back on topic, is there a way-nonjailbroken yet-to go into dfu mode? even if there's a program to run I'll do it.
I know the alternative is to downgrade to 3.1.3 and get an jailbreak for an app that does that. I just really don't want to. Help is appreciated

You NEED the power button and home button for DFU jb or not. You can find alternative programs but I have not heard of such.

I believe older versions of Blackra1n put the device in DFU [ Where you had to open the program twice and click Make it ra1n! twice ].

Well, poo. I can downgrade to 3.1.3 I suppose and leave her there with jailbreak till shatter comes out. Or she can just wait. at least it's not my phone :]

You don't need to downgrade if you're going to use blackra1n for DFU. Just don't let it attempt to jailbreak.

How can I get it to only do the DFU mode part? Isn't there just the one button? It's been awhile since I've seen the program

Originally, on Windows, with blackra1n, you had to press "Make it ra1n!" to enter DFU Mode, close the program, open it again, and press "Make it ra1n!" again to jailbreak ( OS X did it all in one shot ). You could possible use it as a tool to enter DFU.

I've never actually looked into this.

i found this, never tried it myself, but i feel it might work.

Alternate Method: Going Into DFU Mode Without Button Pushing: (on windows) Easier than timing the buttons just right

1.) First download the required archive (i'm not sure if i could post it, i'll just PM it)

2.) Extract the archive to the root of your hard drive, should be C:/DFU/

3.) Connect your iPhone and ignore iTunes

    4.) Goto Start – run

    5.) Next type in “c:/dfu/dfu iBSS.m68ap.RELEASE.dfu”

6.) Wait for iPhone to show a “white” screen

7.) Now you may proceed to downgrade!

I wish there was a legitimate solution to this. I have no way of going into DFU mode now. I just hope Jailbreakme.com comes out with an updated jailbreak. I don't wanna go back to 4.0 O_O.
