    'Sup people.

I read about putting Droid on the iPhone and I thought it would be kind of cool to, using the same process, code and install a new OS for the iPhone.

I have a basic idea of what I want to do. My problem is that I don't know how to do it or what to use to program it.

I have a feeling I'll need to use the iPhone SDK to do this, which is a problem seeing as I don't have or want a Mac. Is there a way to make iPhone apps/touch controlled OSs on Ubuntu?

    Here's my idea.

Sorry I couldn't directly post the image here. The picture wouldn't show correctly. >___>

Anyhoo, you can read the description of the picture to get the idea of what I want to do here.
If you know if this is even possible/doable, or if you want to help, please let me know.

it looks doable, but do you know how small the icons would be?

Creating a new OS isn't as simple as just making a UI and writing some code. Hundreds and thousands of man hours goes into it, writing drivers, coding, debugging. And thats just half of it, I seriously doubt any of which can be done using the iPhone SDK. The reason android has been ported relatively easily is because most of the really hard work had already been done by google, creating the android OS.

What you're best off doing is creating a theme for iOS which looks and feels like you want this to be

@CrazyTrain- 32x32 on 3gs and lower. I don't have either of the 4G products, so I don't think HD support would work that well for me.

@Half-Life- I mainly use Ubuntu and I've heard that iDroid isn't that great. Dx
Been curious to try it, but doesn't it not work on iTouch 2G?
Also are Droid themes capable of modifying the way things like multitasking are handled?

    @bobby- That's what I suspected. >__>
A few of the things I want to do like the settings menu and the app pages wouldn't work though. :/
It could do without the settings menu, but the thubnails/app pages is sort of the defining feature. And I may be wrong, but it probably wouldn't work with iOS's multitasking too well without a huge overwrite.
I was thinking of trying to modify Moblin, but I don't think that would work too well.

iDroid only works on 1st gen iPhone and iPod Touch and only on 3.1.2, or iPhone 3G (can be on 4.0).

Would be nice if you can port Zune HD to the iPhone.
