    • first off I've prolly jailbroke close to 25 Itouches and 3 Iphones on 1.xx 2.xx & 3.xx.
    • I've restored tons of boot loops (apple logo to black screen) or (apple logo to connect to Itunes logo) in my years. so very fimiliar with
    • DFU + Shift Alt = HAPPYNESS

    I have never seen this.
lady gave me her unjailbroke 64GB, 3.1.2, 3rd Gen ipod touch.
she says " I'm not tech savvy I dunno what I did"
I say ok (Shes only synced her Iphone to my Itunesfor gosh sake)
    its gotta be easy.
well she has her Itouch dead so I plug it in immediately goes to charging with the red battery.
after maybe 20 min its not rebooting (should be by now) so I say DFU mode here I come.

I get it into DFU mode and it wont let me shift restore becuase it is reading in itunes as an IPHONE???? no firmware is compatible becuase its not an Iphone but it wont read Itouch firmware.

    what do?

tl;dr: Ipod touch reading in the Itunes as Iphone? Cannot Restore.

Take the iPod and run. /off topic

I think i had the same problem before, if it wont charge from your computer, you could try a wall charger, and then putting it to DFU?

I know this problem - it is often caused by bad combination of ipod firmware, ipod model and itunes on the computer...maybe try another itunes? For me that worked in the past.
The iPod is not broken - but the battery seems to be - IF it wasn't jailbroken and that is the case -> file for warranty
