first you have to download ZiPhone 2.5c and click the jailbreak button and then when it gets to the Spamming AT, waiting for respose error. DONT EXIT. hold down power and home buttons until you are in recoverymode. then follow these steps.
    Steps:
    1. put the file that you need to download that the link is below, in a folder, once done click on Setup.bat you will see
    iPod Touch Jailbreak 1.1.4
    2. Type J then hit enter
    3. type y for yes then hit enter
you won't see any text scrolling on your ipod you will see the apple log once it's done it will reboot your ipod and you wlll have 1.1.4 with installer and you can go from there.

Here is the link to download the file.

I'm somewhat a newbie here. So what's the difference between soft and hard JB? I used ZiPhone, which type of JB that I did?

u did a hard jailbreak. the difference is that a soft jailbreak doesn't jailbreak it fully and u have to be on a lower firmware for it to work. A hard jailbreak would jailbreak the firmware ur on and jailbreak it fully. (correct me if im wrong)

So.. what is the practical difference? Does it mean that if I use soft JB instead, I can fully restore my iPod so that it seems like it has never been JBed?

A soft update is when you are on a jailbroken 1.1.2 (most of the time) and you patch it with 1.1.4 files. Your kernel will still be on 1.1.2.

A hard jailbreak, which is more stable, is when you are on 1.1.4 (in this case) and you jailbreak 1.1.4 without any trace of another firmware installed.

I don't know how I could explain it any better then that
