I had categories or something like that installed and then i removed all of the items from the lists and then deleted. When springboard started back up all my icons disappeared and my iPod now only responds when i double tap home. I think it might be that Customize was set to hide all of the icons? is there a way i can start apps on my iPod touch remotely? I use an iMac.

I'm guessing you could try force restoring..

I'm not 100%, so don't blame me if it screws up.

But that is what I would do.

Well i've never heard of option+restore and i used the shirft version and mine works so you might want to go for the shift. Anyways i read somwhere that apple has updated the restore so third party apps cant be used. I hope this helped.

I was having this same problem with Categories. It wiped out my Springboard.
I suggest restoring it to 1.1.1 like these guys do.
Don't fool around with it too much to try to fix it, it could just cause more problems.

Get the 1.1.1 firmware here if you misplaced it from your first jailbreak
    http://www.ipodtouchhacks.com/ipod-touch/updated-112-downgrade-to-111-instructions/
Just click the link to firmware there.

If restoring to 1.1.1 is not working then force restore it. There is a guide to it in this thread if you don't know how it works.

Hope this somewhat helps. I wouldn't download categories app again, it's been more trouble then it is worth for me.
