You can only do it from a Jailbroken iPod Touch... here's the post I did about it:

Actually I've accomplished this by changing the aiff file with another one with the same name but a song. However this is only good if you hook up your ipod to speakers.

The files can be found at /Library/Alarms

This is how I did it.

    1) I opened a song in Quicktime (any MP3 will do)
    2) Export the song to AIFF (default settings are fine - sorry to assume that everyone is on a mac, the settings are 16 bit interger, little endian or big endian, 44.1kHz)
    3) Log in with any FTP program to your iPod Touch
    4) Make a backup of all the alarms to your HD
    5) Rename your file to Alarm1.aif (or whatever sequence you want to replace) and overwrite the file on your iPod Touch
    6) Reboot your iPod Touch and set your alarm

It will still have the original name.

I'm looking into how to change the transducers (external alarm) to play something different, but it looks like it was written into the Alarm.plist in frequencies and duration so I'm not sure how easy it would be to hack that, but I don't think too hard. For now if you have something like an iHome, you can set music for your alarm with this method

the alarm is useless because if u have the alarm set it wont play the music outloud unless u have them hooked upto external speakers its soo retarded...
