What are these exactly? I understand they have something to do with wireless networks but I need to know more... I am planning to make the switch from PC to a Macbook very soon and im wondering if I need one of these or both maybe I don't know?

(I already have a wireless network at home it's a linksys)

BTW Airport express portable is said to be "portable" what does that mean?

Airport express is a Power Adapter with Wireless Internet Reciever

The other one is a router with an internal harddrive and many people can access the router to retrieve files.

Why would one need this? Isn't the Laptop going to receive the signal?

    no

with a laptop they either have built in Wifi Adapters
if not you will have to purchase these wireless cards and pay monthly or daily service.
