I have a 8th 2nd gen iPod touch and I was puzzled to find airplane mode in the settings. Anyone have an idea about this?

Hmm. Maybe it's for some airlines that have wifi. I'm not sure though. It shouldn't have it

It's just a feature to turn off all wireless connection with one 'button'.

I have a feeling it's a quick way to save some battery. Cuts wifi and bluetooth in one. And of course, its good to use on airplanes. But, the new "Wifi Always On" feature means more battery wasted and airplane mode can ensure you are saving lotsa battery.

It's not always on. It just means that even when the iPod is locked, the wifi stays on, since this didn't happen on 3.x

This doesn't work with me. I locked my iPod and lost wifi almost instantly for some reason.

Same here. I had iheartradio open and about 5 seconds after I locked my iPod the stream got cut off because WiFi turned off.
