I figured this out when I turned the WiFi on in SBSettings. Then I decided to take a look at Safari, I searched in Google "hi" (yeah me being random lol) and it is connected to the internet!

    Here is a screenshot:

Yeah, I also found this strange. Lol. Having Wifi on in flight? I don't think so.

This is started to be introduced, but is very expensive (The costs they charge to let you use it). But it's also useful for when you want to use the internet without any pestering calls, texts etc.

And you can do this unjailbroken. Just go to airplane mode and go into settings and turn WiFi on.

This is common now on every cross country or cross pond/pacific flight

$15 for unlimited wifi on a 6-16 hour flight isn't expensive, it's three beers. I've been known to use it, esp. on business (ie, reimbursed) trips.

WTF, really? So airplane mode on the Touch is just to turn of BlueTooth and that's it. Seriously, why is it even there?

It's probably more intended for the iPhone... in which it disables connection to the cell network.

That doesn't happen to me. When I turn on Airplane Mode, my wifi bars disappear and when I try to go to google, I get a message saying that there's no connection.

    Guys,
You can enable airplane mode, then enable wifi and still have bluetooth off.
The OP turned Wi-Fi on while airplane mode was on.
This isn't a bug or anything. And Wi-Fi IS OFF when it is in airplane mode, unless you do what the OP did.

Airplane mode is all BS, have you ever watched myth busters, also I've done some flying lessons and NEVER was I told to turn off my phone even while refuelling. During the flight you could hear other people getting messages over the radio and fellow students even had pilots take phone calls in mid air. But then I was in a cessna and compared to a pasenger jet thats like an envelope compared to an iphone.
