I jailbreaked my iPod Touch 2G by doing a shift+restore with a custom firmware created on a mac! Now the available memory for my iPod is 6.5 GB which was 7 GB earlier! Also now "Others" is taking much more space!
Where did the memory go and can I get it back?

Well you could always unjailbreak it.

Of course you can get it back...
But you have to think, It will take some memory to add all of the software into the ipod from the jailbreak...

The jailbreak increased your system partition, don't worry this is normal. If you ever want it back just DFU+Restore, it will clear your System partition and make your use partition bigger.

To fix your space problem you must unjailbreak your iPod. So you'd need to put it into DFU mode and restore it via iTunes with an official firmware.

This is why its best to pay a little extra and get the models with more memory...
Anyways, downgrade to 3.0 and jailbreak that is the best way to go. +500MB

Well i was jailbroken on 3.0 too! And had 7 GB. So why 6.5 GB only with 3.1.1 ?
