I have a JB ipt3g 32. It runs fine and iTunes is running like it should (Hard to believe, I know.)

My sister is sending me her 2nd gen Touch that is stuck in recovery mode and will not restore. She wants me to look at it.

    1. Will my iTunes freak out if I plug her unit into my computer?
    2. Will iTunes try to import my stuff to her unit?

What do y'all recommend as to how I start to "repair" her unit?

    1. Nope, it will be fine.
    2. Nope, just give it back to her before you set up her iPod, or she can just restore it afterwards.

    I recommend a DFU+restore.

When you plug it in, iTunes will ask you whether you want to erase it and sync it with your computer. You can just say no to this and it will be fine.

Her unit, though I have not seen it yet, appears to be in the perpetual usb plug screen shot mode on the unit. Her pc will not recognize it and when it finally does it attempts to restore. Finally it says it cannot be restored with an error 6 or error 9.

I have had her uninstall iTunes and re-install the latest version. Did not help either.

How will I know that I have "fixed" it if I do not restore it?

I don't think you CAN fix this issue without restoring. I agree with ChrisL, just DFU Restore it, and press cancel when it asks you to sync her iPod with your iTunes library.
