i got an app off of the app store for texting (for my iPod Touch) but the only way you know if you got a new text message is to go back into the app

is there a way to add push notification to the app, like the sms app on the iphone, so that it will add the badge to the icon on the springboard when i get a new text?

    any help will be appriciated!

No. The developer has to add this feature.

because you aren't the developer of the app

Not only that, but a dedicated server is required.
