    So I've got an 8GB 2nd gen, and I was wondering if it would be possible to increase the capacity of my device without buying a totally new one. I've read how it's (nearly) impossible to unsolder and re-solder the flash chip, but could one, perhaps using an iPad camera connection kit and dTunes add more music storage, whereby music is stored on SD cards? (I'd be happy to carry round some SD cards, label em up)

    The main issues I've thought of so far:
    - iPad camera connection thingo doesn't work with iPod touch and I don't know how to make it work...
    - I think the iOS shuts off power to peripherals when the device goes to sleep (surely a plist hack could change this, but, once again I wouldn't know how). When playing music the device would die as the storage is disconnected...
    - Incompatibility with SD cards, other, I don't know

    Looking for someone to discourage or assist (or both)

    Cheers, Michael

    PS: this ZoomIt thing looks like it might work a little better than the iPad camera connection kit, but their site looks dodgy and I haven't yet read any reviews.

    Apple is never gonna ad an sd card slot into their devices other wise everyone would buy the 8gb and apple wont make any money.

    As one user put it:
    "There is a greater chance of an ice cube surviving in hell than apple putting an SD slot in iDevices." something along those lines.

    So not true... I'd still buy the median, almost having to get the 64gb -.-

    Ad-hoc hackkkkk

    Sorry if I didn't make it clear in my first post, I'm not asking if Apple will add an SD slot but whether it would be possible to rig up an ad-hoc hack using a ZoomIt or the "iPad Camera Connection Kit" {which provides a 30-pin to USB and 30-pin to SD card convertor}

    could work something like:
    - Music is loaded onto SD cards
    - Plug SD cards into either ZoomIt or iPad camera connection kit (depending on what can be made to work) which in turn is connected to the iTouch
    - Access said music from SD card using dTunes or similar hack

    Yeah?

    You also have To consider whether Or not the iPod will realise the card is connected..
