I've been trying to figure out how to SSH into my iPod touch on Lucid without wifi for a little while now. I found a way last night. All you need to do is create an Ad Hoc wireless network and connect your iPod and SSH. Here is a link on how to make the Ad Hoc network on Ubuntu. I'm providing the link because there's a special way you have to make the network to have it stay connected.

Hi, thanks for the link, I needed to do exactly the same thing, but with the Iphone. I managed to set up the adhoc network on Ubuntu as mentioned. However, I wasn't able to ping my Iphone from my ubuntu machine, despite being able to connect the iphone to the network. When you connect to the adhoc network using the iphone/ipod, did you assign a static ip? I specified an IP address and subnet mask accordingly under "Static" in the Wi-Fi Networks section in the iphone. Do I need to specify anything else like Router?

    Thanks,
    Kent

I just used WiFiFoFum to connect to the AdHoc network created by my computer.
