Ok, so I am thinking about buying a 160gb ipod classic and i was wondering how much the actual storage of it is, since the ipod touch 16gb is 14.8gb and my ipod video is 60gb but its actually areound 55.

Its probably like 150 to 154 GB I'd guess, but I'm not sure. Regardless, your going to get more storage than you'd ever use.

A small portion needs to be set aside for the OS, etc. That is very slight compared to the ridiculous amount of actual storage.

    You couldn't be more right.

The actual storage of the 160GB classic would be approximately 148.8GB

lol but i dont think its that proporsional.. since the OS in the ipod classic is not the same as the ipod touch and i dont think its that much bigger... ipod touch = 1.2GB
and u r saying that the ipod classic has a 12 GB OS ....mmmm im not sure... but that sounds a bit too much ....

if im wrong plz correct me....

It's not the size of the OS, it's the size of the storage, which is 16 billion bytes (16,000,000,000)
However, one gigabyte as iTunes sees it is 1,073,741,824 bytes, so 16gb exactly would be 17179869184 bytes.

    So 16,000,000,000 is approximately 14.8gb.

    Hope this clears it up.

you can use a program called iPod wizard to uncap the data volume i believe...not totally sure it works on the 160gig though
