I'm a noob to the whole iPhone scene, and I have a couple quick questions. I have an iPod Touch right now, but I'm thinking about getting an iPhone (used, from a friend) so I can use the camera and GPS, and Skype for phone calls. However, I don't want to start paying $70+ a month for cell service just yet. Can the iPhone 3G be activated and jailbroken so I can use it with no cell service, and just on WiFi networks like the iPod Touch is?

    Thanks.

Yes; can be activated, JB, and used like a glorified iPod.

You might need a SIM to do the activation but it depends what program you use to do it.

You can do it without any SIM card with QuickPwn for Windows, from my knowledge.

Something you should know: You'll have to get the iPhone without a contract, which costs $599/8GB

Now, is there a way to disable the "No SIM" message I get all the time?

When it is activated, you may find GPS doesn't work that great

There is probably some way to edit it out but I am not certain (a search may yield some results).

Or, any SIM card should keep that warning from appearing. It does not matter what the SIM card is or if it is even activated.
