I don't have a Touch yet, but I played with one in an Apple Store for a while and I noticed something that may be useful: as with all fields in the Address Book app, the Notes field is editable from the Touch. So I entered a new contact named AAAAAAAAAAAA to force it to the top of the list, and was able to use that contact's Notes field as a basic notepad.

Obviously a proper Notes app, or a third-party text editor, would be preferred, but something's better than nothing.

I saw a vid on youtube in which someone used an instant messaging app and he DID use landscape mode typing. It be might so that he hacked the script or something.

Glad to hear it's at least somewhat useful -- I hope to use this trick if I get my Touch before it's jailbroken.

Also, I suppose if you really want to get tricky you could add a few contacts, each with different purposes: AAA To-do, AAA Groceries, AAA Directions, etc.
