I've been playing around in the iPad simulator for a while and just wanted to share some of its "hidden" or not so noticeable features.

    SpringBoard:

This is probably the most noticeable, but you can't tell from watching the videos or browsing through the gallery. The new redesigned springboard allows you to rotate in all 4 directions. It also has 5 rows and 4 columns when held in portrait, and 4x5 when in landscape. The dock can hold up to 6 icons and all dock icons have a reflection. Dock looks a lot cooler, and undocked icons have slightly more noticeable shadow when compared to the iPod touch.

    Spotlight, Keyboard:

When on the spotlight page, the background is dimmed and a keyboard pops up. The keyboard has comma and period buttons along with "undo" and "redo" buttons (when switch to the symbols keyboard). Keyboard is bigger (obviously) and a keyboard retraction key is located at the bottom right corner.

    Safari: bookmarks, search

New safari has a bookmarks bar that allows you to quickly go to any bookmarked site. Google search has search hints when typing, it no longer shows only the search history.

    Safari: Pages

Safari can have up to 9 pages. (1 more than the iPod touch)

    Safari: Videos

When watching quicktime videos in safari, a built in quicktime player is shown instead of loading the movie player. Player has basic controls such as scrubbing and play/pause. Pressing the fullscreen button will show the video in fullscreen, similar to the iPod touch quicktime player.

    Lockscreen: Music Controls

Music controls are black (no racism intended) and weirdly aligned to the right. Don't know what made apple do that, but it looks really awkward.

    Wallpaper

When setting the wallpaper, you have the option to set it as your homescreen wallpaper, your lockscreen wallpaper or both.

    Lockscreen: flower

The mysterious flower that is displayed beside the unlock slider. When tapped, the flower is highlighted and nothing really happens.

And that's all, hopefully we can add to this thread if more things are discovered!

I think the flower button is for "slideshow" on the lockscreen.

Thank the heavens no more full-screen.

I was wondering how they were gonna handle this. I might download some more wallpapers so I can mix and match.

That's because they didn't add in the Photos app yet.

I never thought of that. It's a good idea.

This is really nice. But theres some faults still, in the firmware, not the review.
