Firstly I must apologise if this seems like a stupid question, but I am new to all this.

Last time I updated my Ipod touch, it wiped the device - no big deal,as it can be synked. However, I have on my Ipod a selections of podcasts that are no longer avalilable on the itunes store - I cannot find a way to back them up onto my library (they were downoloaded from the itouch)- when I synked after 3.0 it diddnt resore my music - I am afraid that I will lose these podcasts for good if I install the new 4.0 update.

    any advice?

Upgrades only update the firmware and will not result in any data loss but always make a back up before just to be safe.

thats the point - i dont want to risk the loss, but i dont know how to back these podcasts up - it wont let me transfer them to the library, and i cand redownload them because they are unavailable.

Am pretty sure updating doesnt touch any of your data. When I upgraded my iPod touch 3g from 3.1.1 to 4.0 everything was still there.
