I have a question. I have a new iPhone 3GS on my desk next to me.

If i Jailbreak I understand that I will be able to use any 3rd party applications that there out there fort he iPhone/iPod Touch.

What about all the rest of the applications that are availabe in the App Store? Will I be able to install them aswell (if I find the .ipa files)? Or you still have to purchase all the apps from the App Store even if the iPhone is Jailbroken?

Thats the part of the Jailbreaking that I do not understand.

    Thank you in advance.

Of course! I know that. (I read the rules aswell here in the forum about piracy)

I just did not understand if the Jailbreak is for installing 3rd party apps or all kind of apps.

I think he is referring to apps like winterboard. Not illegal applications...

Then what does that have to do with .ipa's?

The act of jailbreaking's main purpose is to allow 3rd party applications (ones from cydia) to run, not to encourage piracy

What a lot of people use the jailbreak for:
    -Pirated Apps
-3rd Party Apps from Cydia, etc.

What you should use the jailbreak for:
-3rd Party Apps from Cydia, etc.

Of course, with Jailbreak, you can install apps from the app store normally. (paid apps cost money still, free apps still free)

Aha, now I understand a lot more about the Jailbreaking thingy.

No, I do not want to install any pirated Apps, since I dont really like any anyway

I have browsed most of them from my iPod Touch and they didn't really get my attention.

As for third party apps, I am trying to find some, but it seems that the only thing that I bump on is Cydia that lets you install third party apps.

Is there a list or something similar with third party apps?

If I dont find any 3rd party apps I might aswell keep my Nokia 5800 which has tons of apps and sell the iPhone since I got it for 160Euros for a renewd plan.
